These appear at the bottom of the screen on a smartphone and the top of the screen in a web browser. Once you’re happy with your selection, you’ll see options to permanently delete – or restore – the selected images.

On a smartphone, simply long-press on the relevant images. To select an image on the web, click the checkmark in the top left of the thumbnail. You can also select specific photos from within the bin to permanently erase, rather than clearing the entire bin immediately.

If you’re sure that you want to immediately and irreversibly erase the snaps, click ‘Empty bin’. Do either and you’ll be presented with a warning message, confirming that all items in the bin will be permanently deleted if you proceed – and a warning that the action can’t be undone. On a smartphone, tap the three dots in the top right, then tap ‘Empty bin’. On the web, head to the bin and click the button labeled ‘Empty bin’ in the top right corner. However, if you want immediate peace of mind, you can also manually empty the bin. To erase your images forever, you don’t need to do anything else: simply leave your deleted snaps in the bin for 60 days and they’ll be gone. Once there, you’ll see a message at the top which reads ‘Items will be permanently deleted from the bin after 60 days’. In the smartphone app, you’ll find it under the Library tab. On the web, you’ll find the bin in the main Google Photos menu on the left of the screen. You'll then want to go to the Google Photos bin. Tap ‘Move to bin’ and the first stage of deletion is complete. Tap this and you’ll get the same pop-up as above. Open an image from the main thumbnail grid and you’ll see the bin icon in the bottom right corner. Using the Google Photos app on a smartphone, the delete option is just as simple. Click ‘Move to bin’ and that’s what will happen. You’ll see a message confirming whether you want to remove the photo from your Google Account, synced devices, and places shared within Google Photos. If you’re accessing Google Photos from a web browser, simply open the image you want to delete from the thumbnail grid and click the bin icon in the top right corner.

How to delete individual Google Photos imagesĭeleting individual images from Google Photos is straightforward. I do have a serious crapton of photos, and probably a third should be deleted, but even if I took the time to cull them, I`d still have a crapton of photos needing to be preserved somewhere. So what does Archive achieve? It allows you to reduce the clutter in your main Google Photos library: send a photo to the Archive and it will disappear from the main thumbnail grid – but it will still be accessible. Maybe somebody can explain to me what’s going on here?

But they are rendering my laptop unusable. Obviously I don’t want to lose these photos from Prime, I was counting on that being a safe place for my photos. I don’t understand, do I have to keep these photos on my computer in order for them to be on Amazon Prime? I looked at Prime Photos on my tablet, and all the photos appear to be there, but every time I boot up my computer I get a message from Amazon saying I need to decide whether to salvage these deleted photos or lose them forever. But when I did this yesterday, I got a message from Amazon saying I had deleted a large number of pictures and had 30 days to reload them from my trash bin or they would be lost.

My computer’s drive is now completely full, so I wanted to move the photos on the computer to a portable drive to free up that space on my computer. When I got Amazon Prime and installed the app, it automatically uploaded all the photos to the cloud. It almost filled the hard drive just with my photos. Last fall my hard drive broke, and the repair shop salvaged my data and installed a solid state hard drive, unfortunately far too small for my needs.
